Retinosis piigmentaria y edema macular cistoide asociado

Resumen

Entre las maculopatías de la retinosis pigmentaria entre el 11 y el 70 % es ocupado por el edema macular cistoide. Se revisaron textos básicos de Oftalmología y se localizaron artículos sobre el tema de los últimos 5 años a través de Google como motor de búsqueda, el directorio LILACS y la consulta de las bases de datos PubMed e Hinari para ampliar el conocimiento sobre el tema y exponer algunos de los tratamientos que se han utilizado recientemente. La literatura publicada acerca de la retinosis pigmentaria, una de las distrofias retinianas frecuente causa de ceguera a nivel mundial, demuestra que aún se investiga esta enfermedad y sus complicaciones  haciendo uso de los adelantos más significativos del presente siglo XXI. Se destacan los nuevos hallazgos sobre su fisiopatología y acerca del edema macular cistoide que se asocia en el curso de su evolución natural. Se concluye que la comunidad científica mundial con el desarrollo de múltiples investigaciones continúa aportando nuevos conocimientos sobre la fisiopatología de la retinosis pigmentaria y busca el más adecuado manejo del edema macular cistoide, aún de difícil tratamiento y causa de los cambios atróficos en la fóvea, de la reducción de la agudeza visual y de la calidad de vida del paciente.
